Club Objectives

The Health and Healthcare Business & Management Research Group is dedicated to advancing actionable knowledge in the field of behavioural science, business and economics as it pertains to healthcare management. By driving innovative solutions and addressing critical research areas, we aim to influence contemporary healthcare leadership practices and foster the evolution of these fields into a more integrated and insight-driven discipline. Our group's focus areas include:

  • Digital Health Innovation: Research explores the adoption and integration of AI and machine learning in healthcare management, addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by Electronic Health Records(EHR). It also investigates the transformative effects of telehealth and remote patient monitoring on patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency, alongside sustainable business models for telehealth services.
  • Equity and Access in Healthcare: This theme examines strategies for reducing health disparities in underserved populations and the role of healthcare policy in enhancing access to care. Additionally, research focuses on designing patient-centred care models that prioritize patient needs and experiences, along with evaluating the effectiveness of patient engagement tools.
  • Value-Based Care and Outcomes: Investigations in this area centre on the transition from volume-based to value-based care delivery models, emphasizing the measurement of patient outcomes and satisfaction. It also includes the development and assessment of value-based pricing models for pharmaceuticals, analysing their impact on market access and patient outcomes.
  • Healthcare Workforce and Organizational Management: This theme analyses strategies for addressing workforce shortages and burnout among healthcare professionals while emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion initiatives in healthcare settings. Research also delves into interoperability in healthcare systems, focusing on overcoming data exchange and patient data protection barriers to improve healthcare delivery.
  • Pharmacoeconomics and Supply Chain Dynamics: Research in this area evaluates the cost-effectiveness of new drug therapies, including the economic impact of innovative pharmaceuticals versus standard treatments. It also addresses the economic implications of pharmaceutical distribution and supply chain management, exploring strategies for optimizing supply chains to reduce costs and enhance availability.
  • Economic Implications of Healthcare Policy and Regulation: this theme examines how healthcare regulations across different countries influence drug pricing and availability, focusing on the economic effects of price controls and market exclusivity policies. It also explores the financial impact of introducing new pharmaceuticals and strategies for managing budget constraints, particularly as they relate to high-cost therapies and their integration into healthcare systems. It also focuses on the role of Health-Related Quality of Life(HRQoL) metrics in pharmacoeconomic evaluations and decision-making processes, as well as analysing the relationship between medication adherence, HRQoL, and overall healthcare costs.
  • Pharmacoeconomics in Personalized and Preventative Medicine: This topic analyses the cost implications of genomic testing for tailoring drug therapies and assesses the long-term economic benefits of precision medicine, particularly in managing chronic diseases. It highlights how individualized approaches can improve outcomes while considering financial sustainability. This topic also evaluates the cost-effectiveness of preventive drug therapies in reducing overall healthcare expenditures, such as case studies on the economic impact of vaccination programs and preventative treatment plans, demonstrating how proactive strategies can lead to significant cost savings in healthcare.
  • Pharmacoeconomics in Managing Rare and Chronic Diseases: this sub-topic addresses the balancing of costs and benefits in the development and reimbursement of orphan drugs, exploring the significant economic burden that rare diseases impose on healthcare systems. It also explores cost-effective strategies for managing chronic diseases within healthcare systems, with an emphasis on the critical role of patient education and self-management programs in enhancing economic outcomes and improving patient quality of life.

By bridging these key areas, researchers will contribute valuable insights into enhancing healthcare systems and advancing patient-centred initiatives, thereby driving meaningful change across various aspects of healthcare. Ultimately, this will foster innovation and improve economic outcomes within the healthcare sector.
