Overview
The main purpose of this workshop is to allow participants to get a clearer understanding on where they are in their research and on what needs to be done so to advance with their research project and thesis document.

While your thesis very likely will be written in a linear way, your research was quite expectably not linear. Likewise, the chapters of a thesis are not completed in a linear way. This is a front and back matching through the thesis chapters and sections. A permanent adaption where changes in one section very likely will have impacts in various other sections. Navigating through your research and thesis document and to do all of such adaptations on the fly are certainly one of the learnings that will be achieved through the doctoral journey.

The structure of this workshop pays tribute to this fact and will take you through your research in a linear-non-linear way. The principle objective and prime learning outcome of this workshop is to put you into a position where you have a better understanding about your research and how to present it, and what are the general shortcomings in it that sill need to be addressed.

Key Take-Aways

This workshop will assist you to advance with the following knowledge, skill and competencies.

(i) Knowledge

At the end of the training you will have gained the following understanding:

1. What are the essentials of a doctoral level project.

2. What is a research problem and how to construct it.

3. How to problematise and what is the difference in between a problem as such and a problem to one.

4. How the research problem, the research question, and the outcome expectations belong to each other and why this often leads to research going wrong.

5. How to work with and engage with the literature.

6. The concept of mirroring and how it can support in building up your thesis and mapping out your research.

(ii) Skills

At the end of the training you will have gained the following skills:

1. How to define an issue, to problematise the research problem, and to derive a fitting research question.

2. How to make use of the literature to support your analysis and methodology framing.

3. How to build up you thesis and research narrative using techniques such as mirroring.

4. How to uncover blank spots and inconsistencies in your research and thesis document.

(iii) Competencies

At the end of the training you will have gained the following competencies:

1. To re-engineer your research and adapt it to ongoing changes and developments.

2. To engage in targeted reading and literature screening.

3. To see through your research and to swiftly flip between macro-, meso- and micro levels

4. To clearly articulate what your research is about, how it is setting itself apart from existing and comparable studies, the limitations of your research and lessons learnt, and the learnings that you got out for yourself.
