The ‘Getting ready for submission’ course is designed to assist you in the finalizing of your doctoral thesis document. The course provides you with a check list of questions that your document needs to uphold and respond to. The course will allow you to understand the strengths and weaknesses of your work, and to assure that the thesis is covering all the elements that examiners will look at.
The ‘Getting ready for submission’ course is the counterpart of our ‘The Viva Preparation– Getting Ready for the Viva!’ course. And while the latter emphasises oral presentation skills and reflective discussion, the ‘Getting ready for submission’ course is working out the very same matters in written. As to our experience, those that performed best in the examinations, have been those that worked hard on both, the written and oral communications of their research.
The ‘Getting ready for submission’ course covers the various areas that your doctoral thesis document is expected to cover. The course raises the questions that thesis examiners have in mind once reading through the document. Understanding what examiners are looking for will allow you to assure that your thesis is covering the various aspects. It will put you in the position to objectively assess whether your thesis is ready for submission.
In this course you will work through your doctoral thesis document and its various chapters, such as scene setting and introduction of the research, literature review, methodology, data collection and findings, analysis and evaluation, presentation of the results, along with the actionability of the research and why it mattered. The course then closes with a high-level review of the thesis to evaluate the overall consistency, narrative flow, and balance.
Each Task provides you with suggested complementary readings detailing what examiners will be expecting from your doctoral thesis document and in the subsequent Viva.
For the fully supported version, your coach will also provide you with a set of hand-crafted questions for each of the tasks and that will be tailored to your doctoral thesis document and research project.
By the end of the course you will have:
1. Thought through your research project from a diverse number of angels and views.
2. Understood the logic of the different parts of your doctoral thesis document.
3. Learnt about the dos and don’ts on research presentation.
4. Gained practice on how to present your thesis and improved your thesis accordingly.
