Overview
This programme allows you to prepare or refine your Doctoral Research Project over the course of 4 months and to present it to an international academic scientific committee.

Programme outline

Through the course of this 4 months Doctoral Research Preparation Programme, you will:

(I) work out and articulate your research problem and research question(s),

(II) position your research project within the state of the art of the literature and demonstrate the research gap that your work will be addressing, and to

(III) develop an actionable, executable, and frontward compatible research plan.


Programme target group

The Doctoral Research Project Preparation Programme is designed for the following groups:

1. Aspiring doctoral candidates who need to develop their initial research project proposal be admitted to a doctoral programme.

2. Doctoral candidates in their first year of probationary studies working toward an operationalised and executable doctoral research project plan.

3. Doctoral candidates who have completed their coursework and are currently preparing or developing their Doctoral Development Plan and research project.


Programme Details

To prepare for your Doctoral Research Project you will be working through the Advanced Training Courses on “Developing your Doctoral Thesis Research Proposal”.

As and where needed you might also be asked to work through our preparatory course on “Issue Identification, Problematising and Research Question Framing”.

At the end of the programme, you are then asked to present your research project to a renowned international academic scientific committee.

Program

Programme Agenda

Each week has a specific training and development focus, and participants will receive feedback from their academic coach on how to improve their submitted drafts. The frequency and format of the feedback will be provided in accordance with the selected study route.

Participants will also have one weekly group discussion session where they can discuss their work with the academic coach and cohort peers.

At the end of the programme participants are expected to present their doctoral research project to an international academic scientific committee at the end of the four-month journey. This will allow participants to receive feedback, to learn about how their research project fits into their research field, and how to further develop it.

Week 1 | Cohort Welcome and Introduction.

Week 2 | What is the issue and what is known about it from the literature?

Week 3 | What is the problem?

Week 4 | What is the question?

Week 5 | What’s next? How to start the research?

Week 6 | What are the stakeholder perceptions?

Week 7 | Is it the question, or is it the answer?

Week 8 | Issue identification, problematizing and research question framing revisited.

Week 9 | Problem/ issue progress report.

Week 10 | What existing studies have looked into this problem?

Week 11 | What are the research questions?

Week 12 | Who are the stakeholders to whom the problem relates? And how does the problem relate to them?

Week 13 | Evaluation of the match between the research problem, research question(s), and the outcome expectations.

Week 14 | What is your research methodology, and what are the research methods that your research will adopt?

Week 15 | Critical elements of the initial doctoral thesis research proposal.

Week 16 | Your Doctoral Thesis Research Proposal(first working draft)

Final week | Research Presentation to an international academic scientific committee

Refund policy

Deferral/transfer due to unforeseen circumstances

  • If a participant is unable to attend the workshop/conference/class edition due to unforeseen circumstances, registration fees may be transferred to another individual with the prior consent of DoctoratHub.
  • If a participant is unable to attend the workshop/conference/class edition due to unforeseen circumstances, the fee paid may be left with DoctorateHub as payment towards a place at the same workshop/conference/class edition the following year or another DoctorateHub service that occurs within 12 months of the originally booked workshop/conference/class edition. Thereafter, all funds paid are forfeited.

Cancellation

  • Registrations cancelled more than 60 days before the workshop/conference/class edition start date are eligible for an 80% refund of the registration fees paid.
  • Registrations cancelled less than 60 days, but more than 30 days before the workshop/conference/class edition start date are eligible for a 50% refund of the registration fees paid.
  • Registrations cancelled less than 30 days before the event start date are not eligible for a refund.
  • In the event DoctorateHub needs to cancel the workshop/conference/class edition due to unforeseen circumstances, DoctorateHub will refund the full cost of registration fees paid.

Definitions

  • Unforeseen circumstances - an event that is unexpected and prevents a participant attending or DoctorateHub from organising/continuing with a workshop/conference/class edition.
    • Participant example circumstances include Covid diagnosis, severe health episode, and natural disaster.
    • DoctorateHub example circumstances include, but are not limited to, inclement weather or other natural disasters, site unavailability, technology challenges, and presenter absence.
