Overview
Your informal conference-style event three times a year. Get feedback, orientation, and perspectives from doctoral thesis supervisors and peers.

What are our Research Training Camps about?

Every year in February, we hold our Spring training camp. The DoctorateHub Research Training Camps provide you with the opportunity to present your research to doctoral thesis supervisors and receive oral feedback on your presentations. This will help you understand where you are on your journey and how to progress further.

Participants will present their work to a panel of two doctoral thesis supervisors in groups of four to six presenters. Groups will be formed in such a way that the opportunity for mutual learning and benchmarking is maximised.

Each participant will be given 30 minutes. Presentations will last up to 15 minutes and will be followed by 15 minutes of feedback and Q&A.

All sessions will be recorded and made available to attendees of the conference. Those who prefer to speak'off the record' can opt out.

A panel of supervisors and mentors will be available at the edition level.

Research Training Camp Tracks

There are four camp tracks planned for you to choose from:

Thesis proposal track- whether you're joining us from the Developing your Doctoral Thesis Research Proposal Advance Course, the Doctoral Thesis Research Proposal Development Club, or working with a dedicated mentor, this track provides a forum for you to pitch your proposal for feedback from two doctoral thesis supervisors who understand the nuances that Universities are looking for.

Research Execution track- whether you are joining us from our Research Planning or Execution Clubs or one of the available Advanced Courses, Clubs, workshops, or mentoring strands, this track provides a forum for you to present an overview of where you are in your doctoral journey with your research in order to get feedback on its logic and progress, which may help you continue on with the thesis writing process. Your presentation could be about how you intend to collect and analyse data, or it could be about how everything is coming together in your thesis draught, ready for final feedback. The forum provides an audience that will listen, understand the content, and seek clarification, all of which will help you develop your skills as an independent researcher and achieve a standard academic piece of work.

Viva defence track- whether you are joining us from the Viva Preparation- Getting Ready for the Viva Advanced Course, the Write up your thesis or Viva preparation Clubs, or mentoring/coaching work with the DoctorateHub, this track provides a forum for you to provide an overview of your thesis and respond to an example of questions that may arise in the Viva, as well as questions from the audience to clarify. This forum also provides the opportunity to participate in mini-mock vivas to hone your thinking and ability to respond in a timely manner.

Publishing track- whether you are joining us from the Publishing Club, or any of our other Clubs, Advanced Courses, workshops, or dedicated mentoring, or even as your first foray into writing a paper, this track provides a forum for you to present your paper for feedback from doctoral thesis supervisor/s and author/s experienced in providing feedback on conference papers and journal articles. Your topic could be from your thesis or other research, a paper in the development stage in need of feedback and idea bouncing, or a journal article ready for final feedback. The forum provides an audience that will listen, understand the content, and seek clarification, all of which will help with the development of your skills and the paper.
